Abu Dhabi Unveils Ambitious Tourism Strategy for 2030

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has greenlit the emirate’s new Tourism Strategy 2030, with the goal of reaching 39.3 million visitors by 2030, a significant leap from nearly 24 million in 2023. The strategy, led by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), also aims to elevate the tourism sector’s GDP contribution from AED 49 billion in 2023 to AED 90 billion annually by 2030. Additionally, it anticipates generating 178,000 new jobs and doubling international overnight visitors to 7.2 million.

H.E. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, emphasized the significance of the Tourism Strategy 2030, stating that it marks a transformative moment in Abu Dhabi’s journey. He highlighted the strategy’s role in unlocking economic opportunities, amplifying the emirate’s culture, and bolstering its value proposition for the future.

The comprehensive strategy comprises 26 initiatives organized under four strategic pillars: Offering and City Activation; Promotion & Marketing; Infrastructure & Mobility; and Visa, Licensing, and Regulations. These initiatives encompass enhancing cultural sites, theme parks, retail offerings, hotel chains, and dining experiences, as well as doubling promotion and marketing endeavors, increasing hotel room availability, and streamlining visa and licensing procedures.

The surge in hotel guests and international visitors in the previous year was fueled by arrivals from key markets and a vibrant events calendar, featuring over 150 events, cultural festivals, and art exhibitions, alongside a notable 44% increase in MICE events.
